Randy Williams in Mexico 2009
Since 2003, the directors of the Mexico Shaolin Temple have brought the best martial arts masters in the world to teach seminars and retreats in Mexico on their respective disciplines. Now, the great Wing Chun master, Randy Williams, became one of them.
On October 16, 17 and 18, 2009, master Randy Williams gave a seminar on his Wing Chun combat system in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Among the attendees were people from many parts of Mexico and the US, many of whom traveled long distances to learn what master Randy had to teach. Everyone’s expectations were more than met. Even in the first evening of training, it was evident that master Randy Williams was an expert in the art of Wing Chun, and had a lot to teach. So much that it was sometimes difficult to keep up with all the things he taught.
The first thing he taught was the first form of Wing Chun, Siu Lim Tau, and he immediately explained its movements and its first applications in real combat in the green areas of the Monastery. He also taught the basic strikes, blocks and kicks of Wing Chun, Chi Sau exercises and groundfighting, as well as exercises in which the students applied these techniques in real situations. The attendees practiced in pairs to simulate actual combat. This way they were able to feel the effectiveness of Wing Chun as they used it themselves and allowed others to use it against them.

One of the most outstanding things in the retreat was master Randy’s personality, who turned out to be a very cheerful, playful, modest and polite man. He would always listen to the attendees and answer their questions with the best disposition, and even helped some of them with injuries they had since before coming to the retreat. Thanks to Master Randy Williams’ personality, there was a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere for the duration of the retreat, and probably more than a few of the attendees would have liked it to last forever.
In the end, master Randy made many new friends
in Mexico, and many people in Mexico found a new friend in him. There was no doubt that master Randy is a great martial artist who knows the art of Wing Chun thoroughly and has a lot to teach to anyone who is interested in learning from him. All those who were in the retreat are already eagerly awaiting for him to return to Mexico, to continue learning from him.
Until that time comes, let’s hope all participants of this retreat continue to practice so that next year they will be able to make the most of Randy’s retreat. That way he will be even more proud of his Mexican students.
Master Randy Williams’ next visit is scheduled for October 2010, when he will visit Mexico City and Guadalajara.
